Hi everyone, here are two photos from Hog's Back Mountains converted into mono. Btw - it was in these mountains that Tolken wrote the Lord of the Rings. One of the campsite is even called Hobbiton.
For more shots in colour, see http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...amp;forum_id=8 |

The colour versions are real nice John.
But I love what you have done with these two ![]() Did Hobbiton come first, or Hobbits ?? |

I like those, you've done a good job there
![]() I think I prefer the first one, the light and shade on the landscape works very well. I like the foreground grass in the second one, but the trees look a little posterized: I'm not sure if this is an artifact from the conversion to mono, or if you just ran out of adjustment leaway (been there done that, got the T-shirt!). Well worth the conversion to mono though either way! John. |

Thanks for all the comments guys.
For steve,"Did Hobbiton come first, or Hobbits ??", I think Hobbiton was named to honor Tolken, but it could have happened the other way around. He used some words in his books specific to South Africa like Olifant is Afrikaans(only in SA) for elephant. |

Thanks for the info John. That's why I asked what may have been considered a silly question, as quite often fiction is based on factual places. I could well believe that Hobbiton came first.
Olifant.................sounds like something a small child might call an ealephant until they got their tongue around the pronounciation :-). A recent trip to the zoo with my 22 month old Grandson had him saying bye bye rabbit.........to a giraffe :? Thanks again and great photos !! |
