Default My first decent pics, feedback please

I got an Olympus C-4000Z for my birthday and since then have been learning about photography. These are my first few pics that are worth posting. I know they're not great yet, but I'd like some feedback for things I should consider in future shots. They are mostly taken in Austin (UT).

Everyone loves sunsets so I had to take some. I had to wait for the right time of year when the sun sets directly over the lake. Some clouds could have helped but it was already a very nice day. Should I remove the cloud in the top left?

Yep, another sunset. I didn't mean to snap the shot right as the car drove by but it reflects the sun nicely.

One of my first attempts at a pano. It was taken from the 10th (top) floor window of the laundry room at my dorm.

My first attempt at a black and white. A bit too much contrast?

I know this isn't a landscape but I put it here to get all the feedback in the same place. This cardinal likes to hang out on our porch. I just got lucky he centered himself between the two flags. The shot was taken peeking between the blinds.

Thanks for any advice you guys and gals could offer. So far I'm having a great time with this camera.

Great pictures!

I wouldn't change the bridge/sunset shot one bit. The cloud in the corner is a very nice distraction, I don't think it detracts at all from the rest of the photo.

The pano is nice except that it seems a shade overexposed.

I like the contrast of the B/W. If the foreground was a more even color it might have been interesting to bump up the ISO, but that's not the case here. It looks very nice.

The cardinal picture could be cropped a bit at the top to remove the horizontal branch and not cropped so much at the bottom to frame the whole flag. Is it me, or does the cardinal look angry?

I really liked all the pics. Keep them coming!

Overall, nice series of photos with great variety.

I would concur with Lauren's superb assessments.

It can be a challenge shooting into the sun with
a digital camera because it can be fooled and
you end up with a washed out photo.

Your bridge shot indicates you are aware of
this and you have compensated for it.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. I'll come back when I take some more. Until then, I'll enjoy looking at and learning from everyone else's pics.

Nice collection. I especially liked the sunset outline with the cars. reminds me of verses from Thomas Gray's Elegy written on a Country Churchyard about the herd coming home at the end of day.

The Curfew tolls the knell of parting day,
The lowing herd winds slowly o'er the lea,
The ploughman homeward plods his weary way,
And leaves the world to darkness and to me.

Now fades the glimmering landscape on the sight,
And all the air a solemn stillness holds,
Save where the beetle wheels his droning flight,
And drowsy tinklings lull the distant folds.
