Hi
This photo has been with me since last summer. I have never displayed it like this before. I cropped it to show only the tower until now. I felt that the right side of the photo competed a little too much with the tower. What do you think. Do you think it all works together? There is minimal PS work here by the way. Just tweaking levels here and there and a little saturation boost + sharpening. cheers, Martin. ![]() |

I blocked out the right side with a piece of paper to simulate your description and found it was a lovely photo when cropped. However, I really like the full photo--the offset of the tower, the dramatic way in which the cloud points at it, and the sunlight on the right side of the field contrasting with the darker color of the field on the left. If I had to choose the better photo, cropped or uncropped, I couldn't. They both work.

I like this picture a lot. It really shows depth. I know some say that there may be too much sky, but I think the sky and fields in the background add character to this photo.
GREAT SHOT! |

I would leave the sky in the picture it gives the impression that the tower is standing guard and adds a depth to the perspective that would be missing from a crop.

I totally agree with Barb and Selvin. The right side cloud and lighting is really what makes the tower so impressive.

I must say that I like the full picture better! I think it is very good, and the colors are outstanding. The white clouds catch my attention and draw me down to the ruined tower. I am now wondering "Where is this? What happened to that tower?" ect.
Great pic. |

The photo was taken East Lothian, Scotland. Not far from North Berwick. Unfortunately I don't know much anout the ruin. I should try to find out. Thank for your feedback. Regards Martin Paul. |

i like the photo a lot. I think it works better with the cloud cause it gives a feeling of motion and time passing by while the tower stands still for ever!
