Default Rainbow Ranch

Shot in the Crowsnest Pass of southwestern Alberta, one of my favourite places. The mountain under the rainbow is Turtle Mountain. On April 3, 1903, the entire north side of the mountain collapsed, the most massive landslide in north american history. It wiped out the mining village of Frank, killing 76 people, and wiped out over a mile of the railroad main line. Today, you can drive on the highway through the rubble, some rocks the size of boxcars. In spite of the size of the rocks, they came down the mountain, across the valley, and went hundreds of feet up the other side. Geologists say that the mountain is once again unstable, yet there are still people living in the danger area.
