Default Ship Silhouette Sunset

I've been out playing with my 7D today and doing some comparative shooting against the 1D mkIII which I will be reporting on later.

While shooting some birds (or trying to if they would ever come close enough) I saw that the sun was going to go down in an interesting place so hung around to see what I could get. As the only thing interesting was the ship in the distance and there were no high clouds to pick up colour I decided to shoot longer than I would usually for a sunset. This is at 175mm on a 7D, the rest of the exif is in place if you want to know more. I've not increased the colour or anything, just added a bit of contrast.

I actually really love this shot Mark. Especially considering you didn't go out to shoot this type of scene.

The lighting is just wonderful with the subtle glow around the edges of the clouds really emphasises the nice layers of it and the the hill in front of the sun. the silhouette of the ship adds some interest to the left part of the frame. and the telephoto lens stacks it all up quite nicely to further emphasize the layers.

i say it was a good thing you looked away from your birds for a moment.

The layering silhuettes work very well and the dark ship is a perfect balance to the big sun - which in itself is amazingly exposed!! - and the shore.

Very good shot, Mark1616 - Beautiful sky and clouds!

Seems that the 7D is rendering some superb results.

Wow Mark, I've got just three words for this shot: I love it

Really stunning, in my eyes everything about this pic is perfect - the lightning, the composition, colors... definitely a "wall hanger"
