Please keep in mind when viewing these pictures that I had only had my D90 for a week and had never tried poor lighting shooting with it. The first pictures were relatively out of focus so I'll spare you them.
![]() ![]() This one might be a little overdone, but I like to use a little artistic freedom from time to time. ![]() I might be sticking my head out with this one, as I was trying to think out side the box. ![]() This last one was form a good vantage point, but I'm not sure if I managed too use it to it's full potential. ![]() Thank you for looking and all comments are welcome. thanks for sharing, you have some lovely colors here.
#1- foreground is just a little too dark. the colors in the water are nice. this one would have required HDR to work, as right now the foreground is dull and dark #2- i like this one best easily my favorite. the reflections of the sun on the foreground are interesting, you have a good perspective that emphasizes the rocks in the foreground enough, but still leads you out in to the sea and the nice colors of the sunset. its just a little bit underexposed throughout, which is often the case when you have a bright object (sun) in the middle of the frame. #3 - too low of perspective, this one doesn't work for me #4 - the composition is pretty good. but its just underexposed. there isn't enough detail in the rocks or the sea despite the lovely warm light. |

Thank you Hards and Walter. Here I was worried that I'd overdone the hdr effect on #2.

Nice pics - #1 and #2 are stunning, especially #2 is just beautiful.
#3 don't work for me too, the perspective is way to low in my eyes. #4 is really nice composed, but a little to dark for me. |

Hards and maggo picture #3 is an experimental job. What I had in mind when I shot the pictures from the low vantage point was to show how the sunrise would look like from the ground. What I see now is that for a picture like this to have a chance of working I should have the camera slightly tilted down on the hill ebbing out on the sea, this so that the sun gives a light path down to the water. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to do some more morning shooting.
…which I’m really looking forward to doing. Now we have a full scale winter here, -13C to -18C with lots of snow, so it’ll have to wait. Picture #4 is maybe on the dark side, but the sun was not very bright as it was hiding behind some clouds. I can try a little more saturation and gamma. Thanks, Alasdair |

Okay, I've done a little more work on #4 and would like your opinions.

No need to apologize, Alasdair, I think they're all superb. #2 is my favorite.
