I took this picture earlier today in the wonderful weather we had in MD. Played around with it a tad, converted it to b&w, and added grain, afterwards I think I reliazed I was trying to emulate a nice tri-x shot. Tell me what you think!

I didnt fiddle with the sun at all actually. I didnt even think to do so. It just turned out that way in the picture. As far as why trees dont freeze, think of sap the same way as you do antifreeze in a car. It doesnt freeze as easily, but it will. In extremely harsh climates, trees have been known to go boom! As thier sap freezes, it expands and the tree pops. Glad you guys like the picture!
