I know this picture isn't framed correctly but I was out trying learn how to use this camera. Have a question. I was trying to play around with the white balance. I set it to direct sunlight because it was bright outside. I took a lot of shots that were so white I couldn't even tell what I was shooting. Any critiques and suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, BP |

The main suggestion I have is to learn the manual settings for your camera before you start using the auto features. Hopefully you wont even need to use those features.

i don't particularly like the angle since you shot down at it.
i would go from a lower perspective, and back out, using wider angle part to give the waterfall more context. also, you could come back with lower lights, and use a tripod at the lowest ISO and a big aperture (high f number, aka f16) so you can get a long exposure for some smooth water effects. |

Thanks Hards. I appreciate it. I don't like the angle either. I thought about going back with my waders and trying to get a shot from under the little bridge I was on but didn't know if being in a shadow would make it hard to capture.
Thanks again! |

never hurts to try. especially when learning. you can learn just as much from a shot that doesn't work as one that does. i know that for a single subject matter, be it a building, whatever, sometimes i have shot over 100 frames from different angles, different focal lengths etc.

BP,
This exposure is very good, to my taste. Refreshing to see running water like it looks in reality. The milk water approach to running water may accidently happen if you've invited Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds The framing is very good and there is a very powerful diagonal. Good luck Torgny Last edited by Torgny; Jan 8, 2010 at 10:55 PM. |
