Default Some rough waves

While driving around I spotted these kids watching and hoping for calmer waters so they could surf.

Great shot Selvin. I can imagine how these kids are standing there, looking at the wave with fear (prob. not!) - or maybe just waiting for the really biiig one.

Great shot, I wish I were on Hawai now!

Great shot, but I am not sure they are waiting for calmer water. Did you not stay around?

I was able to look at the same beach about three hours after and the waters were much calmer. The "Don't Swim" signs were down and lots of people were in the water.

While there is a tendency to challenge the waves when the "Don't swim" signs are up, (you can't see them in this photo, but they were up in abundance) the beach this shot was taken at has the highest incidence of rescues and injuries on Oahu.

I can only hope that they waited for calmer waters.

Thanks for all your comments.

Dave,

I stand corrected.

You are correct they aren't surf boards rather skim boards. Figured I'd use terms most folks can easily understand. Not too many folks know what a skim board is. Skim boards are popular at Sandy beach where the shot was taken.

The spot is also popular with the body surfers. Yes, you can guess what the board is - the body. This is not a sport for the squeamish especially at Sandy's where the water is rough and have been known to slam folks to the bottom in a blink. The kids love it. Me, I'm strictly a land lover.

Aloha. :P

I agree, beach watching is no longer limited to mainly looking at studettes but also studs with drooping shorts by girls and boys.

Aloha, and thanks for the feedback.

To give folks an idea of how enjoyable(?) body surfing is take a look below of a sequence of four shots showing a young stud waiting for the wave, catching and turning his body - no surfboard - towards the shore to get the right ride and then getting creamed by the wave. Ahh, the joys of being young and foolish.

This was done very hurriedly so the cropping etc is very ragged. But, you get the idea.

I would just like to point out that the guy standing on the left is losing his pants. And he doesn't have underwear.
