This shot was taken on a calm warm September evening just over 3 weeks ago in Almirida, Crete. The foreground water you see is a small stream which runs down from the mountains, under the road and up onto the beach and into the sea. This week, following heavy storms, it became a raging torrent of a river, flooding hotels and apartments and dragging several cars into the sea. One man tried to save his car and went missing. Just yesterday, his body was washed back up onto the beach right at this spot.

Who could have guessed, on this tranquil evening, what tragedy was to follow just 3 weeks later. The sea is a powerful force never to be taken for granted!
