Do either of them move anyone either good or bad?

I like #1 the best. Just a suggestion- maybe point the camera slightly left, thus placing the tree nearerthe right hand vertical third. Great feel to the pic tho - nice work...

Good morning Jim! I like both, I agree with dan on the first shot, I also think this would be really cool looking in b/w. I hope this area is close to your home, I think that tree in the first shot is a awesome subject to shoot again.

Happy New Year!

I see what your saying, I seem to have a compulsion to always center my subject. Offset looks much better. I was able to crop the original and it is a better shot.

I also tried it in B&W and you are right it looks good. It was a very foggy day and took a long walk with my dog and a few pictures. I was having trouble with an exposure that worked with the water and fog, thats what got me to try the sepia version.

The other shot was somewhat easier, the foreground just worked.

Oh, and yes it is very close to my house. It's a nice place, that morning was foggy with a light mist. We were the only ones around.

Very nice edits Jim!! I am always amazed how just a slightly different crop can change the composition of a photo. I'm glad this place is close to your home, I have a lake just across the road and I would be lost without it when it comes to photography.

Thanks for the tips, I like the results better also. I have been scouting the local area for good places to take pictures. We used to live along the Florida Everglades, there was always lots of photo opportunities out there. Texas is having a terrible drought and it makes it harder to find the sort of thing I am used to photographing. There were lots of birds here though, so it is going to be a regular place for my walks.

I liked the sepia effect of the first image. With the cropping it has improved! The second image suggests a sooting place also...Already put in your portfolio ; )
