Ancient Heraklia lies in the foots of Mt. Latmos and partly sank in the waters of modern Bafa Lake. Where Heraklia was an harbour city before the bay's entrance was filled by alluvions of river meander (mod. menderes).
Since ancient times the bay transformed to lake. It's strange that the lake has still salty water.

Nice pictures.

Has the name of the philosopher Herakleitos anything to do with "Heraklia"?

Emre, thanks forthe images introducing this interesting site whose nameassociates the renownedEphesian philosopher Herakleitos, who,in fact, established the foundations of dialectical philosophy with his famous saying which is often quoted'you cannot bath twice in the same river'.

Today there aretowns in different parts of Anatolia, you may knowas Ere─čli, each of which was once given the name Heraklia to honour Herakles!!
