This is beauiful! I appreciate the effort that goes into taking photographs like this! Getting up early and leaving a warm house to go out in the cold and travel sometimes long distances make photos to share with usl This effort was well worth it, thanks Jean Roy!

This picture was taken with a Canon 5D, Canon 17-40mm F4.0 L at 17mm, tripod mounted, and it was a timed shot at ISO 400, F4.0, - 2/3 ev, 1.3 seconds. Thanks for all the wonderful comments! I have printed it large and it looks like a wallhanger!

Yes, Don it was a long day. Rose at 5:00 am, left house at 6:00 am, and drove for 1 and 1/2 hours to this site, and then waited for the sunrise at 8:20 am. The Alpen Glow was fabulous to watch and a lot of shots were taken.

This particular shot was taken at 7:53 am, just as the sun started to break over the eastern mountain range and highlighted the mountain tops to the west. The Alpen Glow did not start until 8:30 am and lasted for 10 minutes only. Many shots were taken there as well.

All together it took 4 hours, with quite a lot of time standing in -8c weather with a strong cold wind blowing in your face, but I was dressed warm! But then again the results were worth the cold hands, and cold face! :-)

Thanks everyone for all your comments. It is appreciated!
