Default A post on Cape Cod, MA

With our new Sony F717 snapped a ton of pictures on the cape following our marrage friday night... I'm looking for a little critique as I want to improve my skills... We're both amatures, I'm even more so then my wife.

-Mike

the first two are her shots.

and mine....

I'm particular to mine, but I might be a bit biased.. heh

For some reason, I prefer the shots without the road/path in it. I'm not sure why, though.

Some of the technical things that are usually done wrong aren't. So that is a very good start. No over exposure (well, maybe just a touch in the second one) or lack of focus. And you clearly had a subject.

I prefer the lack of sky, again not sure why. Originally, I like the first better than the second.. but as I look at them more, I've shifted and prefer the second.

I think they all could use a little bit of boost to the contrast. It would make the greens have a bit more punch.

There is something called "The rule of thirds" which is well described here:

http://www.betterphoto.com/exploring/tips/thirds.asp

It talks about composition and the placement of the subject in the picture. Technically, it was broken in each picture, but it is isn't a hard-and-fast rule. It's really just a strong guideline. You might find it useful/interesting.

Mike

Your marriage is young and your picture is not better for the sake of the marriage so that it might grow old.

Crop out the road in hers and you have a scenic shot and not just a post.
