Default Moonset over Mauna Kea

This is a picture of the moon setting over Mauna Kea mountain on the Big Island. Unfortunately, the moon set rather late in the morining so there was quite a bit of light in the sky.

Any suggestion on how to emphasize the moon other than the obvious wait until the moon sets at a more "Kodak" moment?

Nice picture.
Reminds me of my paper delivery days. One time I saw the rising sun in the east and waning full moon in the west. It was an awesome sight.

Here's my try at it, Selvin

I made a duplicate layer then adjusted curves. Then I created layer mask->reveal all->then I painted everything under the sky with black (therefore only the sky curves were affected.
I then used the magnetic lasso around the moon and increased the brightness. This, of course, is only one way of doing it but it does emphasize the moon a bit more. I also cropped out the object in the upper middle of the pic (I found it a bit distracting)
Hope you like it

Tracy,

Thanks for your advice and the editing work you demonstrated.

(1) It's funny, I did not notice the distracting branch in the upper middle until you mentioned it. It goes to show how much I was focusing on the moon and Mauna Kea

(2) I never experimented with the magic lasso and what it can do because of the difficulty I first had trying to control the pointer. Now that I see the possibilities that you mentioned I will experiment with it some more.
