Well. a much simpler question. Is it in camera b&w setting, or is it a simpe conversion, or is there some tweaking involving bars for different colours in the translation

The short answer is yes. I shot this in raw / monochrome with red filtration. I use ACDSee Pro Photo 3.0 Beta for my PP. I allows 9 channels each, of equalization for lightness and darkness.
I must confess that black and white has been my passion for decades. My father was a master black and white printer and I grew up in the darkroom learning from him.

I must visit Tennessee. Last time I was there was years ago on a motorcycle trip. Your roads look like so much fun.

I ride too and Tennessee is a riders, and photographers, paradise.
