Default Pier Review (for Rob W)

Rob, here's our local pier on this side of the "pond". Actually, the Pacific. Shots taken last evening. The first one taken just as the sun "peeked" below the clouds before disappearing. Canon 5D MkII & EF 24-70 2.8L.

Surfing was poor last night, but that didn't keep some from going out. Tide was out as well. This was taken a few minutes after sunset.

20 minutes later the lights came on along the pier.

Excellent shots, i like the third with the lights and reflections...

Unfortunately they dont surf over at Southport, they'd be too tired from the long walk to find the sea.
It does come in from time to time but certainly not deep enough to surf on

Cheers

Walter - LOVE that 2nd shot. While the colors in #3 are great I think the silhouetes really make shot 2. Nicely done!

All three are great, I am biased with the surfers in the second. The last shot has interesting colors. Great job.

What are the shooting specs?

composition-wise, #2 is my pick.

but lighting and details are better on #3.

good set.

Walter, those pier-shots are great!

The second one is my favorite, as it tells a story. The surfers are just perfect in composition and evenly distributed as well. Maximum luck there is not more motion-blur, as you'r shot was taken at 1/30th second!!

# 3 is the color-perfection as well as reflections!

I cannot stop wondering what #1 would look like with (just a little...?) HDR-treatment? Otherwise, the setting sun is perfect, and HDR would most certainly detstroy the nice silhuett-effect.

Well spotted and shot, Walter!
