Default Wind Power

2 hours south of Calgary, the landscape is filled with hundreds of these Wind Plants. This shot was taken on Cowley Ridge near Pincher Creek at approximately 4am.

The time of 4 a.m. accounts for the great night sky with its myriad of sparkling diamonds. Another winner.

Yes that's right. The light from the full moon and long shutter also creates the blue sky. As I was driving home there was another band of wind plants on another ridge. This area of southern Alberta is known as the "wind capital of Canada".

Thanks for commenting.

First it was railroads, then telephone poles, then paved highways, then Burma Shave signs, then billboards...and now, wind turbines. Will we ever get a clear, unobstructed landscape shot [email protected]#??

Nice shots, Spy!

I like both of those but the first is a cracker, i'm afraid i only know of one 4 o'clock in a day though...

The sad fact is that these wind farms are simply there to give the impression that something is being 'done'.
The cost to build and maintain with the energy they give out is simply a waste of time. You'd need a wind
farm the size of Wales to power a medium sized city...

the first shot is absolutely superb. the low horizon, great placement of the turbines with nice motion blur. perfect exposure with great colors and stars.

instant favorite for me.

WOW two stunning shots you have there Spy with the 1st one for me being the best
I keep looking at the first shot and cant help thinking it might look even better with the LHS being cropped, leaving just the turbines.

A feast for the eyes....
You have many elements that provoke more study. Definitely one to hang in a room, where people gather, to invite discussion. The motion of the turbine I can almost hear and feel, cool!

I wonder how much they affect wind patterns, hence weather. With a farm of those fan blades going there must be some effect.
