Yes -- you see these guys 24/7 at Grand Central Station. But at least the National Guard doesn't mind having their pictures taken or photographers using a full-height tripod. I took this picture this morning.

This is the lobby of the library and that's the guard that won't let me use my gorillapod. As you can see, there's not a lot of people around.

I was using my gorillapod BTW when I took this shot -- as a monopod.

Has anyone explained why a tripod is such an evil thing? To me its a godsend. It gives people a reason NOT to use flash and drawing attention. It gives a sharper, clearer picture. In heavy traffic areas I can see the problem with some goof tripping over a leg. But if out of the way in some corner whats the problem? Common sense should prevail. In some cases I just wonder if its some dummy in a uniform trying to show his/her misplaced authority.

Really nice colors and lighting in this interior-shot, vvcarpio!
Nice place to take pictures.
I'd go there again.

But not everyone knows that, Bynx!

It think it's mainly ignorance of our hobby ("Why would anyone take pictures of a building? Are they nuts? As if it was beautiful"?) and for lay-people its hard to understand WHY we go to such extremes to shoot some pictures.

I'v asked a landowner in the vincinity of my last panaorama-thread (http://forums.steves-digicams.com/pa...i-live-ii.html) if I could trespass on his land to get to a vantage-point where I could take some landscape-photos, and he was not understanding at all.

He said: "Why? Its all been photographed by someone befor? Why would you do it again?"

So, you see. Not everyone has the same interests.....

But you could just be right about someone trying to "show off the power of uniform".

...Have a nice weekend, everyone!

Thanks, Walter. You've just inspired me to go back. I will someday. It's already Friday so I can't say "this week".

Hey Walter, your response to Bynx sounds like poetry:

Ha-ha-ha!! A good-one, this!

All we need now, is someone to put music to it and then we can all sing this new song, together!

I'm not sure it does rime so well, though....

Thanx!

BTW: "Why would you do it again?"" would be a good refain (or whatsitcalled...)

Hey, rhymes are for kids. For us old farts I mean folks, there's cadence and tone and a bunch of other stuff that a poem make.
