Default D5000 Initial photo

I'm kinda new at digital. Just bought a Nikon D5000. This is an inconic lighthouse here in Maine, known as Portland Head Light. But at this angle, you can see Ram Island Light about 1 nautical mile off in the bay. Thanks for looking!

I like the pic - nicely placed the lighthouse in the left 1/3, good composition. May be colours could use a little more "pep" in them, maybe a bit more saturation? Just my opinion, but I'm also new to the DSLR worlds

Really a good starter!

very nice initial offering for us. its a very pleasing image.

this is a great image to start learning the ropes on post-processing. with a little tweak to the contrast and saturation and a little sharpening, this could be all that much better. so go have a go at it, and let us see what you come up with.

The only distracting thing I see is the water. Its just not right. What is that windmill like propeller on the other side of the lighthouse? The shape doesnt look natural.

I like the original, more natural colors, the 2nd has too much saturation.

nice first attempt at some editing, think you just took it a little too far. maybe something about halfway between the original and the edited would have some "pop" but not go too far. enjoy!

Yeah, I kinda thought so. Thanks for the input. I'm now learning my way around GIMP. I'll have some more stuff in a while.

I just got a D5000 myself and am looking to learn more about it here. I have to say I like the original one better too. Nice shot.
