Default The face of Winter

Just tree pictures that show the many faces of winter here in Norway. And belive me - they are not all as cosy as these ones...

# 1 - Blue sky, white snow, ice on the water and sunshine.... (all bliss so far)...

# 2 - Ice on the frozen sound (saltwater) and 6 visible levels of ebb-tide.

#3 - Snow:

Simple snow is very hard to picture, as it is all white. It took a while before I was contet to have cought the face of snow....

Hope you (dis..)agree?

i really like the first 2 shots. they are exposed well, and i think capture the essence of winter quite nicely.

the first shot has some real nice layers to it and the lighting is quite nice. i don't care for the shadow in the lower left, i would probably clone it to match the rest of the snow.

the 2nd shot is a good details shot. i like the warm glow from the angled sun and showing the tides in the ice is interesting.

the 3rd shot doesn't do much for me. the lack of any real highlights or shadows leaves it very flat and non-contrasty.

All are top notch! Exposrues are excellent and so are the compositions. I like the texture and detail of the snow in the foreground in #3.

I'm a bit confused now, Hards80 - How can I expose snow as such, like for example a house or anything else solid, with highlights and shadows - do you mean deep and contrasting shadows? It wouldn't be snow, which is WHITE, then - would it...? Highlights I can understand, but shadow in snow....?

Anyway, I made another pp of the same shot. Tell me if thats what you were missing from my first edit.

You've transported us to Norway once again, Walter, and what a pleasant journey it is.

Beautiful series again, Walter - after I was getting used to your lovely sunrise shots, it's nice to see something a bit different from you

#1 is a real beauty in my eyes - I love the colors and contrasts and the composition is really great. The snow-covered rocks in the back/right part look just like a cake with sugar icing on top

#2 is very interesting - love the details and the warmness it conveys. The tides are something I've never seen like this before!

Regarding #3 I like the "crispness" of the snow, showing all the details of it - but the pic still conveys a warm feeling to me. Your last edit does the opposite - it now feels really cold, which is great too.
