Default 6 image sunset panorama over Yellow Creek State Park

Hi all,
This is my latest photo from last night. 6 images were stitched together in photoshop cs5 with photomerge, to create a wide angle panorama.

It looked like a promising night with a lot of "puffy" clouds, but as the sun started setting all the "puffy" clouds disappeared. This seems to be happening a lot, is their an actual scientific reason for the clouds dissipating as the sun sets? Or does the photography god just hate me?
