Default Shack and Pond in Bullville, NY

When we moved to Orange County in slightly-upstate NY umpteen years ago, it was love at first sight -- for my wife. For the same rent we paid for our small basement apartment in crime-infested Jersey City, NJ, we now lived in a spacious “luxury apartment” and woke up to the sound of birds chirping in the trees instead of sirens blaring down the avenues.

I, on the other hand, wasn’t so sure. Commuting to work to NYC I knew would be bad. (It was horrible.)

But later as I started taking our kids to little leagues and weekend school activities, I got to see the rural countryside. I breathed in fresh air while I drove past horse ranches and vegetable farms through single-lane, country roads that wound up and down the hills.

I, too, soon fell in love with the place. And the red shack in the photo on Route 302 is one of the many reasons why.

#1) Shack along Route 302 on the road to Pine Bush.

#2) We knew it was private property but there was no sign so we parked on the gravel driveway.

#3) Pond in Bullville along NY-17K.

#4) Wild geese flew in and landed while I was taking pictures.

#5) The surface is fully covered by duckweed.

C&C welcome. Thank you for looking.
