Default Private Pond in the hamlet of Scotchtown, NY

From the pictures I took of this private pond in the hamlet of Scotchtown in slightly upstate New York you probably couldn’t tell that right beside it is a sprawling subdivision with hundreds of vinyl-sided ranch-style homes closely packed together to accommodate some of America’s middle class. The subdivision was created in the 80s. But I suspect the pond along with its high-ceilinged wooden home secluded behind some trees were in existence long before that. The place seemed the perfect getaway for the city weekender.

Access to the property is via a narrow, nondescript dirt road from one of the subdivision’s asphalt-paved roads. You couldn’t tell if the dirt road leads anywhere much less a pond, so my wife and I were surprised to find the open space when we went there. The view faces west so I imagine this place would be ideal for taking pictures of sunsets.
