Default Sunset, Sunrise

The first couple of photos here are of one of the most photographed sunsets in the world....Sunset Beach on Oahu.

Next set, sunrise at Laie Beach, Oahu

Questions--Which are the most effective shots/s? Why?
Does the inclusion of foreground elements improve a sunrise/sunset shot?
How would you improve these shots?

All shots taken with a Pentax K-5 and Pentax 18-135mm lens

Thanks for your reactions and suggestions.

Wow! These were taken a few days ago. If you are still there (here on Oahu), you could also try my fav sunset spot, Sharks Cove, just a short distance north of Waimea Bay with great coral formations and very large surf during winter months. Also, Laniakea Beach (commonly known as turtle beach) has a lot of sea turtles during daylight hours (mid-day), just south of Sunset Beach.

Personally, I like a forground subject to provide interest, unless the sunrise/sunset is amazing enough by itself.

We just got back to Arkansas Thursday afternoon after a great visit with my son and his family (see the Alluring Aurelia thread in the Pentax forum). We were going to go up to Shark Beach for a sunset, but just ran out of time. I got some great shots of the turtles at Laniakea.
