Default Shuksan sunrise

went up to the Mt Baker area to shoot the sunrise this morning. at 6 AM the fog was so thick you could cut it with a knife, but by 7:00, it had mostly cleared away, and by the time the sun rose above the mountains at 7:50, all that was left was the haze in the air from the wildfires on the other side of the Cascades. i wanted to get some dawn alpenglow on Mt Baker, but the sky wouldn't cooperate, so i settled for this shot of the sun peeking over the shoulder of Mt Shuksan... 5D Mk II, 24-105L @ 55mm, 1/20 sec @ f/18, ISO 100, -1EV.

Beautiful snow capped mountains with snow in the foreground ! How high is elevation where you took this picture? The sun and the orange sky make it a perfect sunrise!

thanks, WCKSer... this spot is at about 5200 ft elevation. it still has snow when other places at that altitude don't, simply because it gets so much each winter that it sometimes never fully melts. the road to Artist Point, where this was taken, usually isn't cleared till some time in July, and often closes by the first of October due to snow, so it's a pretty short season for folks who aren't into snow-shoe hiking!
