Default Adelaide, Australia - 2 sunsets from Brighton

Hello friends

I haven't been on the forums for quite a while... but glad to be back.

Hoping that all have had a great, safe, happy Christmas, and good start to 2013. I am thankful and feel blessed with my past few weeks.

Here are two sunset images that I took with my Canon 7D camera a few days ago.... from Brighton beach, in Adelaide, South Australia.

Photo #1 taken at 20:13 (8:13pm), and photo #2 taken just over half an hour later, at 20:45 (8:45pm). Wow, how the sky pun on a show for me!

Looking forward to your comments.

Paul

G'day PJ

yes mate - a couple of cracker shots there

cc if I may -
1- can you edit your post to insert a blank like between the 2 photos, so to make it easier to separate #1 from #2 ??
2- me being a bit of a pano-freak, I would like to take a slice off the tops of both pix to s-t-r-e-t-c-h them out visually, esp #2. If I run the scroll bar up/down while viewing, I seem to come to removing about 1/3 of the sky to make a spectacular image worthy of your long term collection

Hope this helps
Regards, Phil

Spectacular sky in #2. At lower right of #1, looks like a "giant" going after the parked cars?

Paul,

It so happens that one of the Swedish national poets, Evert Taube, has written a song where Adelaide flashes by

då hörs en röst: Hallo, my little friend!

Han vänder sig och ser i samma stund
en vacker flicka - hennes röda mun
den ler mot honom och hon viskar säll:
Come on, my darling!

Hand o'r your money, be quick you big dam' fool!
Men vår Karl-Alfred fruktar ej hans tjut.

i Port Adelaide, i Australien.

The song is about a sailor, Karl Alfred, who goes ashore in Port Adelaide. Some events await him ...

The pictures are very different in character. The first make me think of Dutch masters of the seventeenth century, while the second makes me look into the future (Venus' heat)

Take care in the heat, Paul

Torgny

Btw Is there a Victoria Street in Adelaide?

G'day Torgny

Courtesy of Google Translate, here 'tiz again ~ I have joined lines of text to compress it slightly ...

A young sailor, Popeye was his name, he went so far, from port to port,
He was so happy with his free life, he had not yet fallen in love.

As a seaman, he deserved his bread. His mother survived but his father was dead.
He wrote so dear to his mother all times, and sent money from a distant land.

Port Adelaide, it's a nice town, where is a sailor always satisfied and happy.
Popeye cleans up and goes ashore, with good mood and money in hand.

For a theater goes Popeye path for he has gone ashore to enjoy themselves.
There he sits upon the grandstand, when you hear a voice: Hello, my little friend!

He turns and looks at the same moment a beautiful girl - her red lips
it smiles at him and she whispers pet: Come on, my darling! Come with me tonight!

And when the show is over, then go Popeye the girl out.
She says: Now follow your Ellinor you shall see how neat and nice I live.

Uti a house upon the Victoria Street where she lived - he follows her there.
Barely she sits upon Popeye knee she says: Take out your wallets!

Popeye asks: What will you do with it? She answers simply: Take it here shortly, my friend!
And immediately step into a man such that it can not describe.

He directed against Popeye his gun: Hand o'r your money, ask you quick 'big lady' fool!
But our Popeye fear not his howl. He says only: Yes, varsågo on the slide!

But utur pocket he takes purse and the culprit may be the one between the eyes.
Then he says to the little Ellinor: goodbye me you, I am sorry to go!

But as the song dictates the there is a young sailor, who was once
in such a mild house in the third floor Port Adelaide, in Australia.

I would guess Torgny that this ditty could apply all over the world
I will await PJ's response as to your question !

Regards, Phil

Yes, Phil,

Hamburg has it's Reeperbahn, Amsterdam it's Red Light District. So why wouldn't a real or imagined(?) Victoria St. in Adelaide have some facilities

Yes, part of the UG (universal grammar) of great cities, to speak with Noam Chomsky

Torgny

Yes, waiting for the facticities (factualities) of the matter

spectacular colors, Paul... really like the foreground light in the first one. in #2, is that the actual sky color, or did you help it a bit?

Hi Friends

I've been away (at a conference, quite a drive away) for some days ... back now!

So... I now want to reply to your kind comments:

Ozzie_Traveller - thanks. As I attached the files (rather than photo URL / links) - it seems I can't put a space between the photos.... Thanks for your comments. I did already crop a bit, but as I like the varied / and lighter colour in the sky, didn't want to make 'too' pano style.. But you have a point, it would be a different take on it!! Also thanks for the translation of the poem... Cheers again!

paniolo - wow, I never 'saw'-that, but you're right, it DOES look like a giant going over the parked cars. Glad you like the sky too.

Torgny - wow... what can I say, but as usual - your posts are full of depth and history. Thanks for sharing that amazing poem... who knew the link between Port Adelaide and your Sweden?
There IS a Victoria Square (right 'bang' in the middle of Adelaide...) Not sure if that's what it refers to, and yes, many Victoria streets too... (in various parts of the greater city). Adelaide is quite a big city (1.2 million population)

MVASteve, cheers there!! I'm glad you really appreciate the timing too.

Wingman - thanks ... I am very grateful for your feedback.

Squirl033 - Glad you like the colours. Yes, that foreground in #1 was very deliberate! in #2, the sky WAS that colour, but only for maybe 30 seconds. I took many many photos during the 'magic hour'- and this one was the 'peak' in terms of redness! And it's how I remember it too.

Thanks all!!

Paul
