Default Aerial Landscape Photographers?

I'm interested in discussing digital aerial landscape photography with others who are doing it, or are interested in doing it. Would like to discuss camera models, lenses, settings, platforms, etc..

Here's a pic of the Deschutes River Canyon with Mt. Jefferson in the background taken last February in Central Oregon.

What were you 'flying' in to take it?

Intersting topic and nice shot QDM !

Photosbyvito : you don't really need to fly if u want to take aerial photos.
Your kite can fly for you :
Here's a starting link about Kite Aerial Photography :

That's a beautiful photo!

(Sergio, you have got to be kidding. Send my camera up into the air without me? )

Vito, I'm afraid of heights too! At least you won't find me standing next to the edge of a cliff without a rail. For some reason I can fly thousands of feet in the air in my "flying lawn chair" and be totally at ease. It really is very safe.

Richard W, I was flying my powered parachute ultralight. It's a great photographic platform.

Sergio, I've seen those kite rigs as well as little blimps that take the camera into the air. It just wouldn't be the same as actually being there.

Barbara, thanks for the good feedback on the picture.

I really want a higher res camera for under $1000. My Oly 3000 (3mp) works just fine but I'd like to be able to print good quality images larger than 8x10. I'm thinking about the new Oly 8080 (8 mp). I don't need a long zoom since there is always some movement, but a good wide angle would be nice. Suggestions?

This photo shows my flying buddy over the Oregon Dunes. The machine I am flying is basically the same.

Ahh, I saw a link to them the other day. Do you need any qualifications for flying them? Guess you need a big open area, so no good in the UK but if I move to the US it will be good...

Richard,

All that's required is a test for mental illness

Actually you can fly a single seat model in the US with no license required. A two seat model like mine requires an instructors license. Generally it only takes a few hours of instruction to learn to fly safely.

A big open space isn't necessary, but I don't know the UK laws.

hmm that actually doesn't look that bad......how do you control the "up and down" (is that called pitch?)
i see it has a fan on the back so that is how it is powered but how do you turn and stuff like that......

(speaking of fear of heights)
at yosemite....there is a trail going to the top of yosemite falls.....well me and my dad, my sister, and my grandfather went about a mile into it (Columbia rock) and it was basically a rock jutting out over the cliff with nothing keeping you from falling but a railing lol.....but that was only a little nerve racking lol......(and yet i don't do roller coasters? lol)
