Default Mars site, Goldstone Tracking Station

I spent some time here in 1965 as a field engineer on the NASA/JPL Surveyor project. That 200 foot S band antenna could capture signals over minus 105 db down in signal strength. Those were exciting times.

G'day mate

And we down in Oz also had a handful of NASA facilities ... Honeysuckle Creek + Tidbinbilla + Orroral Valley to name a few ~ and when the NASA space program was at its peak, we also joined your fellas with heaps of exciting stuff

However, now it's all gathering cobwebs - if it's there at all & not dismantled for screp metal

Your image reminds me of many Aussie landscapes ... hot & dry & a bit barren, but an excellent location for space-shooting as it's well away from 'civilisation'

Good one

In 1965, I was playing kick the can. Would love to have a antenna with that much gain in the backyard for my Ham radio set up.
Comments always welcome.
