I assume you used Photo Shop, what did you do?

Hi there!
unforunately i dont remember the full procedure that i ve followed in photoshop.. i think i ve croped and changed perspective quite a bit, then adjusted image (curves, levels, contrast etc) and applied a couple of filters: one was definately watercolour (values: 14, 0 , 1) and may be a bit of poster edges but not sure about the last one.

I am not into art type photos like the first one so I can't comment. I do like the original. Maybe crop out some sky and play around with the sponge tool!

What are the yellow things sticking above the white dome?

the yellow things are, i think, part of the skeleton that keeps the structure up. The building is the millenium dome located in London.
