Default Nightime in our town (first night shot attemp)

This was taken at Christmas time at the bottom of our main street, my first attemp at night shots with a digital camera

Not bad for at first attempt. It looks like you have used the "auto" for the whitebalance settings (the orange tone). Try manually settings if you did.

What setting should you use for night shots?

well it depends on the tint in the lighting...some newer lights are more bluish.....which you could use the "flash" setting for.....or in this case if they are orangy then you can use the "tungsten" setting.....or the manual if you can find something white

that actually makes for some interesting shots....you set it to manual WB and have it "meter" (can't think of the real word lol) for a red object......it turns everything in the shot green it is pretty cool
