The azure skies and rugged northeast face of Mt. Neva provide the only contrast to this otherwise monochromatic scene near Nederland, Colorado. Lake Dorothy has already built a frosty cloak for the season. Arapaho Pass Trail, Indian Peaks. 11/7/04.

Beautiful, ccd333...

There is a poetic "line of weakness" up the left buttress of the mtn left center for its climb.

Thanks, digcamfan. I really looked at possible routes for climbing....did not notice the one you mention! Thanks for the info.

I'm not familiar with this expression. (maybe because I live in an area entirely devoid of rocks and mountains)

This is quite a nice shot; very nicely handled given the terrain and high-contrast.

Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

Hi Tom,

"Line of weakness" usually means the most straightforward route up a mountain.

It is not the most difficult route.

Imagine a series of interconnected lines.

See adaptation of photo.

Note: This "line" is not ideal...it is next to avalanche trough...Weather conditions

also could preclude it.

These conditions would be: Rain, >1" of snow/hour, recent/present high winds, recent rapid change in temp.

"When in doubt...go remote". Save the climb and yourself for another day.
