Nothing bright and cheery here. Went to catch a sunset, and it was anything but colourful. This is a colour photo, but looks b&w aside from the little strip of orange sky. This ship was heading out to the west where a good rainstorm was on its way here. We got a real soaking today. Cheers.....thekman.

Very nice kman! I see these kind of photos and wonder where these ships are sailing to and what do they face on the open seas. I hope you get some sunshine this week, good luck!

Its a great shot and one of the reasons is there is quite a bit of lighting in the foreground on the water but the background is dark and heavy. It gives the feeling that the ship is leaving safe waters.

Thanks Bob and John. John, you're right about the foreground being brighter. It hadn't clouded up overhead completely at that time, but it wasn't long after that the rains started, and they're still falling as I write this. A real west coast soaker. Cheers.......thekman.

Suggested alternate caption...

"Departing serenity, bound for the malstrom"

Very evocative of the quote:

"Ships are safe at harbor but that is not why ships are built."
