Taking some pics with my new Canon T1i which I am loving
![]() ![]() I've resized them so hopefully this works...my first attempt at adjusting a file size for online posting.

the sleep shot is adorable! nice one
it looks like you may have tried to use too big of files and then the forum downsized them for you. i am guessing that because they are only 59-60kb each, which is quite small. what are the file sizes on your computer that you uploaded? make sure they are smaller than 1024 pixels on the long side and under 250kb, otherwise the forum will shrink them and compress them heavily. this forum imparted compression will severely reduce the image quality and give your photo a soft look. |

To be honest, I'm not sure what they are. I know they were 5.1MB and I resized to 1024 which the PC changed to (I think) x 683...or something like that. Althought its probably a combination of the sizing and my not having the shot in 100% focus. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have too check the sizing better. I've never done it before so this is something I need to bone-up on.

A lovely pick! It's indeed on the soft side. I played in PE8:

Ordo....that's AWESOME!!!! By PE8 do you mean photoshop 8? If so, can you tell me how you did it. I might just go buy it rather than waiting for the copy to make it to my house (my Dad upgraded so he doesn't need his any longer). However, your sharpening it is fantastic! Clearly, I still have a lot to learn

Yes Shutterbug: it's Photoshop Elements 8. I changed the colors because you version is over colored and the skin of your child looks over the top. Then i applied a great plug-in: Neat Image noise reduction that gives you the option of sharpenning too.
But that's something you will learn in a short time. Seeing and shooting the pick as you did is the real and most important achievement. |

Thank you so much! I'll definitely have to look into trying different things as well. I really appreciate the time you took to improve the photo and for the insight!

Very nice shot, your daughter is a lovely subject to shoot.
Did you shoot in AWB if so, you may want to set it to tungsten. Or if you have the time get a pieces of white paper and do a custom white balance.

I'd have to go back and look but I think it was AWB and portrait rather than standard which may also account for why its not totally "sharp".

Canon do not have the greatest auto white balance system. So you tend to get allot of yellowing if you let the camera chose the white balance for indoor low light shots. Tungsten is not bad, but I try to use a custom WB if possible. It is not always particle depending on the situation.
The softness I think works for the shot, but I think that you were most likely shooting very wide. The 50 1.8 is soft till about 3.5 then you start getting into its sweet spot. I like soft focus lenses for certain types of portraits shots. And this one soft focus works I think.
