The 70-200F4.

I like the dof of the 2nd and 3rd, and the sharpness of the L lens.

I don't want to take away from your enjoyment of them or alarm you. What AF area were you using.. all points, zone, single point... ? The reason I ask is that focus seems to be short of your son. Depending on what focus mode you were using this may or may not be a concern. It appears to me that the pole on the left edge of the image caught focus and it appears to be in the foreground as opposed to your son. If you were using all points or a zone focus where the pole fell in the zone, then that is just the camera doing what it should and focusing on the closest subject (the pole on left). If you used single point and that point was on your son then you could have a front focusing issue.

I was single point on him, I think, but it was on his chest, not face. I will have check the focus a little in my next batch. Thanks, I had not thought of the placement until you asked the question. The pole would be about the same distance as his coat which put the face further back and slightly out. Also no problem about raining on my parade, I am just moving into the DSLR world from P&S and there is a learning curve. I thrive on critism, just ask my wife .
