This is at the local refuge here in Djibouti where I volunteer time to help fix up the place. The cheetahs would actually walk up to the fence and sometimes start purring. And the answer is yes, even though they were putting their heads down and purring I was worried about being bitten (as you can kind of tell). Taken with a P&S.

Gatorkev,

Looks like you're having fun(partial jest). What's the story on the refuge? Are the animals recovering to be set free or what? I am just curious. Anyway, great thing you're doing volunteering your time to a worthy cause in a foriegn land where you could just as easily have "done your time" and come home. Keep posting pictures, and watch those cheetas! Robert

Robert, thanks for the reply. I see that you are from Pcola, about one more month till I'm home! Anyways, the refuge is ran by a French veterinarian with permission of the local government to help the population of mostly Cheetahs and some other animals as well. They were rescued from people who had them as pets, people trying to poach them and stuff like that. They are very clear that it is not a zoo and they are there for the animals...Not sure of his final intentions but I think he is trying to just protect and hopefully repopulate a little. We also do a lot of volunteering at local schools and orphanages in the area.. Have a great day.
