My daughter's been my model as of late, so I can increase size of my porfolio.. here's a shot we took at a nearby park.

A pretty girl, but in terms of photo, the PIX is quite over exposed. So much so that even an attempt in photoshop did not come out sufficiently improved enough to post.
You will need to look closer at F-stop (for dof), EV and shutter speed. In general, in bright sun, I have found it better to error a bit on underexposure than over exposure as once highlights are blown out then they are not recoverable. |

I thought the over-exposition were intentional...

Hi Jenna- as already mentioned- quite a bit of over-exposure,with all the detail/texture of her coat and her face blown out. It also seems a little soft- as if slightly off focus- though maybe down to compression of download..?
I actually like the angle you used here- and the smile sure is a winner. Maybe experiment a little with your daughter leaning on the post- with just her left arm, then maybe both... see what works.. ![]() |

hi I think i can see what you are trying to do, you want blurred background and daughter in focus. unfortunately theres no exif so i cant see your settings. if you open up a lens it lets more light in so you need a quicker shutter speed. i would think that you have metered this wrongly and the camera is trying to balance it out. can you post your settings

Jenna, I know this is an old post, but I haven't been around for a while. I think my "fix" failed, but as was already said, the pic was unfortunately over-exposed. This is but a quick attempt to see if I could do anything. Sorry!

The edited picture looks much better than the first one.

I think the edited pic looks unnatural - sort of strained.
Although a little overexposed, the first one looks fine to me. All a matter of opinion anyway ![]() Last edited by Scoot; Jan 7, 2013 at 6:40 PM. Reason: Typo |
