These are a couple of self portraits that I shot recently. In the first one I'm holding a DIY speedlight beauty-dish that I made. (I suppose that's redundant since it's DIY.... anyway...) The second shot is just a simple self-portrait using natural window light.

The lighting is exquisite on both! Nice detail on the face as well.

In the first shot the camera is on a tripod, and the light is from a speedlight in a homemade beauty dish. I just held the dish in my left hand and tried moving it around until it got the result that I was after. Photoshop stepped in to handle the rest.
Edit: Here's the link that I followed when making the beauty dish. http://davidtejada.blogspot.com/2008...or-sb-800.html Here's the untouched original to better visualize it. (that vertical bar is just a lightstand that I used for focusing) Last edited by JaroDefer; Feb 14, 2010 at 1:35 PM. |

I second that opinion. I am going to try some self portraits but wasnt sure how/what to focus on. I will try a light stand.
