Slave Flash and Orton Effect

I was testing out my new flash's (Metz 48 AF-1) remote slave function yesterday. I had the flash pointing upward with a Lumiquest Pocket Bouncer attached. I thought it came out too dark so I applied some Orton Effect. Earlier today, I did some more tests and I think for my setup with the Lumiquest, setting the flash compensation on my camera to +1 produced better lighting.

I used Gaussian blur to soften the flash's glare on my daughter's forehead and my son's nose and lips. C&C appreciated. Thanks!

i like it, i think all i would do is darken the background at the top or even just crop it out

That is one nice shot. I tend to agree with kazuya and suggest you crop off the visible background. Well done. Your orton effect is just enough and no too much.

Thanks a lot, kazuya and Bynx! I darkened the spot and also cropped the picture. I appreciate your taking the time to comment and suggest improvments. :)

Very nice take! The effect is very good in this darkish setting.

Thanks, simple and Walter!

Yes, Walter, it looks darkish. But the house was actually bright as day when I took it. I was fiddling with my new flash not knowing how to set it properly. Thanks to my goofiness with new technology without it I would not have known about this neat flash-photography technique! :)
