can you explain what the Orton effect is????

Thanks, littlejohn!

Just in case I misled anyone into thinking that Orton effect is achieved via flash-photography, it's actually done in post-processing. I'm not sure how Dwayne Oakes and the others do it, but the instructions I follow is here:

http://pcin.net/update/2006/11/01/th...p-of-the-week/

I use PSE so this is very easy for me to follow. I'm new to layers and blending modes so I don't really understand (yet) what I'm doing. I suppose if your photo-editing software supports layers and blending modes, you should be able to do it, too.

As I understand it, Orton is a photographer who pionered the effect using slide film, sort of like combining a clear shot with an out-of-focus shot, so it's named after him.

vv you are really getting a hang of orton-effect for portaits. After the cropping the picture has become very pleasant to look at. Well done.

I don't want to push JimC but in his place, I would rename the HDR forum: HDR / Orton Effect.
This is kind of an addictive effect.

That's a stunning picture. I don't know much, well, anything about the Orton Effect, but whatever it is, you sure used it to full effect. I'm in awe...:love3:

Very nice shot. The crop makes alot of difference. I might have darkened the bottom left corner where you see her shoulder design on her shirt, but still a fantastic shot.

vvcarpio, Well done!!! I really liked what you did with the lighting/flash. Nice composition. Frankly, you could do more with this... I mean, more pictures... the young lady in the photo would make a perfect subject... but your use of flash, this is absolutely spot on!!! Really looking forward to seeing more... and it would be good to know how achieved this... camera info and all.

Take care.

Wow, even better... good work on the crop... kazuya and Bynx were really on target with their suggestions... This is great work, vvcarpio... I am happy for you and hope you will do more. Thanks for sharing... including this recent crop.

All the best.

Ned
