I was playing around with high ISO (3200) on my 40D last night.

The results were great, but have Nik DFine definitely helped remove a lot of the noise.

I tried Noise Ninja, but I thought DFine did a much better job.

Wishing I had a 5D Mark II, or even D700/D3 (and all the same f/2.8 glass)

Pretty good available light capture! IMO, you might allow a bit more generous space where the boy is facing and a bit cropping off from the left handside in return (preserving the hand of course!) As with your wishlist; just a simple tripod, once you get used to it, would be more than pleasing : )

Thanks for the replies guys.

I also agree my framing could have been better. The problem was my angle of the shot: if I would have included more area on the right, then you would see the hardwood to carpet transition (plus dining table).

I could have used a shallow DOF, but the combination of those elements doesn't make for a good background.

I was just pleased with an indoors, handheld shot, using that high of an ISO value. My 40D doesn't have the best ISO performance (hence my comment about getting a higher end camera).

Cheers everyone.
