you take a piece of steel wool, put it on the end of a rope with some kinda hook and light it up.
remember doing that as a kid.

take a 9V battery and touch the contacts to the wool. It needs to be a really, really fine grade of steel wool or it won't ignite. I swing it on a cable!

Bigger - this was a 16s exposure, don't know how i stayed as still as i did!!
