Found this in the 'summer archives' and thought I'd share it. One of the first photos I took while testing out the DX7440. I eventually decided to exchangethe 7440for a DX6490 - for the zoom capabilities mostly, butI think the 7440 took bettersnapshot photos.

Yes the 6490 is a fantastic camera, especially the 10x zoom but I selected the 7440 because I shoot lots of kids pictures and the 7440 has an awsomely fast shutter lag. I used to lose lots of great shots with my old camera because it was slow. Here's an example where the 7440's speed helped.

I'll probably get a DX7440 (or the current version of it) again in the near future, but at the time I didn't find that it was enough of an upgrade over my current point-and-shoot camera,a Fujifilm F601Z. I've been taking the 6490 pretty much everywhere I go with the kids, but like you mentioned, the shutter lag makes it hard to get those just in time snaps. I hope as I get more used to it, I'll be able to take better shots that don't require much advance planning.

Here's a photoI took today with 6490 at a local historical re-enactmentvillage set in the mid 1800s.
