I am new at this - just got the camera (20d) about 2 months ago. I bought the Tamron 28-75/2.8 lens a couple of weeks ago. Tonight as we were leaving to go to dinner, I noticed the sunset in my rearview. I put the vehicle in reverse and backed down the road to our driveway (fortunately for me it's a quiet subdivision with little traffic). Anyway, I still have a lot to learn, but I was pleased with this one.

It's a good shot. Since you asked for critique, there are a few things I'd suggest:

(1) the taller girl has red-eye. That can easily be fixed in a photo editing program

(2) the taller girl's hair is definitely distracting (and woah, does she have hair!). I know that you're outside, the sun's going down, and you don't have control over the wind conditions, but perhaps asking her to brush her hair on our right side behind her shoulder or ear, or even asking her to turn her head just a tad toward the wind might have avoided the hair in the face

(3) the kids are basically posed looking straight into the camera, with bodies straight on, with hands at sides. Once again, I know this was a snapshot, but it could have been made more interesting by asking the girls to interact with each other (taller girl placing her hands around the shorter girl's shoulders, for example) and having them turn just slightly so their bodies were not straight on with the camera.

But in any event, it was a good capture of the fleeting moment, and the flash worked nicely to properly expose the scene.

Thank you so much for your comments. I definitely need to fix the red eye. I had a couple of other shots where the hair wasnt as bad, but I was trying different manual settings - this auto actually turned out better (in part because of the flash - in part because I had the ISO too low...). Anyway, I am learning and with comments like these to help me maybe the learning curve will be quick. Thanks again.
