The weather in Virginia was beautiful yesterday so I headed up to the mountains to do some hiking with my kids and my new EOS 20D - I caught this picture of my daughter at the summit and I think it has potential, but I wanted to know if you think I should Photoshop the branches or if you think this works as it... I love the way the light catches her hair.

A lovely picture of your daughter. I tend to agree with you, the branches would be better not being there. I took the liberty of removing them and the one immediately behind her head that I found distracting, also adjusted her face in Shadow/Highlights, reason, self explanatory.

You will of course have to make any edits you want on your original, so I hope you don't mind this.

Stevekin.

Wow! What a difference! Thank you!

What tool did you use to adjust the shadows/highlights?

Glad you like it. In C.S. First select around the face to make adjustments just to that area, thengo to Image/Adjustments and click on Shadow/Highlight. It can take a bit of getting used to, but like everything else, play with it. A more limited but useful version is in Elements 3. Find it under Enhance/Adjust Lighting and choose Shadows/Highlights. Again, select the area you wish to change or you will affect the whole image. This is not available in Photoshop 7.

Regards,

Stevekin.
