I like it the backgound seems washed out. But I like that you can see her eyes. Did you use fill flash? I like the detail of her face and hair.

Actually Matthew,I admit it is a bit overexposed (hence the "washed out look" in some parts). But yes, good that her eyes are clear.

I didn't use a flash (no fill flash), but the sun reflecting on the bright snow on the ground gave some bounce light to the "under the hat" area (if that makes sense!)

doesnt look like any flash was used as you have the shadow of the hat coming from above. The fill in flash most likely would have eliminated this.

VA techtigger, you're right. As I wrote before, some snow helped create a bit of light "all around" otherwise the part of her in the shadow of the hat would have been darker still.

ime new to this but the building in the background looks pasted in

great shot though
just had a closer look and the whole background looks pasted.

youre girlfriends image is to crisp in the forground and against the skyline .

Hi Petertherock and welcome. The buildings are not pasted in, but might look so because of some of the post processing and perhaps over-exposure. Also might be because her face is more in focus than the buildings... hence a bit of a different focus to the building, making them look "separate". (but not much / not enough background blur perhaps). It was a point and shoot camera (Fuji Finepix F601 I used, since then i now have a Digital SLR: CanonRebel XT / 350D).

Hi Scorpionfish!

Thanks for your words. I agree the sky doesn't distract too much, but of course I am biased. The advice of the other people was helpful (e.g. remove the wires, etc - and improve the saturation).:!:

I think maybe you put a bit too much saturation in your edit (first one).

Can't see the 2nd edit (cropped?) if you tried to upload it. :?

Thanks again, have a good Christmas. I'll be with her!!

PJ1974 edit is best of all. No flash fill was used.
