I just bought a Powershot S-400 and the card that comes with
it is somewhat useless, any suggestions for high-speed Compact Flash cards that actually work well???? |

After all my research, I have concluded the same thing that I read in DP Review. Every card is a different speed in different cameras. So take your camera to the store(s) and take a picture in the highest file size and stopwatch it until your light stops blinking.
Here are some examples for my Nikon 5000: 15 mb .tif file. SanDisk 128K probably a 4x = 80 seconds IBM MicroDrive 340 mb = 40 seconds Delkin E Film CF 512 mb = 40 seconds Lexar 8x 32 mb = 24 seconds The Lexar is the one that came with my camera. The 1Gb Micro Drives are faster than the 340mb ones, by approximately 40%. Many stores won't open the package, but the ones that do have a chance for a sale. My camera max's out at about 12x. The faster cards will work, but I can't realize their potential. Good luck... I wish there were a database for every camera, with every card, but there isn't. |

Thanks Seidstep,
I appreciate you taking the time to explain this. I had a good idea but your explanation just cemented it for me. ![]() |

If your cam has movie mode or rapid multiple shot mode - that's more likely to crash slow incompatible cards. Lexar 30x seemed flavour of the month over at dpreview, with some near perfect performance in cams of 22X cards
BUT as everyone says- its the match of the cam and card that actually counts, not what's printed on the card spec. Just because you've bought a certain 256Mb card, doesn't always guarantee that bigger from the same stable will always work either. |
