I've been looking around at lots of different compact flash cards. The main use will be astrophotograhy with a canon 300D and some daytime photos. While i dont need an 80x card, i also dont want a lexar 4x card. A 10x or 12x is the min. and i'd prefer something around 40x.

I've not heard of many bad cards, so please share any experiences with different brands!

My budget is $70. A little more if an incredibly good card for a couple bucks more is out there.

Since im doing astrophotography, noise is a problem with taking shots. Im not sure if different cards can effect the amount of noise by their power they require, but if its applicable, the card needs to preferrably not create extra noise, or at least not much.

I had liked the dane-elec card at tiger direct for $50, but the rebate is running out before i can order a CF. My current choice is the Transcend 512mb for $68 at newegg.com

Please help, i really dont know CF cards or their reputations!

BTW, if it matters, i'll be shooting in RAW format and taking some big pictures and usually filling up the card for astrophotography.

Thanks guys!

Forget the Dane...imho

Go with Sandisk ultra II.

If you "look around" on the web, you can find them for a little over $70 w/free ship in some cases.

Welcome to the forum!

Good luck

This will tell you what cards give the best speed with the 300D. The 300D unfortunatedly is pretty slow in writing so about any card will work about the same.

The write speed of the rebel is just over 1 mb/sec so the 9mb/sec write speed of the sandisk ultra II is wasted a lot. Right now im looking at the viking 512mb card. Its a little cheaper, just faster then the rebel's write limit, and the 5 year warranty is really nice.
