Olympus SmartMedia
Does anyone know if the new Olympus D-550 panorama feature will work with media other than Olympus? Is it true that only Olympus SmartMedia is compatible with the panorama feature. If it is a formatting issue, can other media be reformatted to be compatible?

I too am interested.
I have heard that a program called SMPREP comes with some of the card readers that will make it all work. Let me know if you learn more. Richard |

The built-in panorama feature in all Olympus cameras is dependant on using only Olympus brand SM cards. They have "something" on the card that the camera "sees" and if it isn't there the Panorama fuction is greyed out and not available from the camera menu.

I am not smart enough to do it
but I have read elsewhere on the net that a person (w/a Zio or Dazzle card reader) could download and hack a program called SMPREP.exe and make it work with any SmartCard. What do you think? Richard |

Madmac,
yes the above is true on Olympus cards. The New Camedia Master Pro 4.0 has an automatic stitching feature for panaramic shots. If your camera came with the standard 4.0 you can upgrade for $20 at Olympus site. I had to buy full version (there is not an upgrade offered for the 2.5) for $40 and feel it was well worth it.
