If you plan totake a LOT of pictures (over 2 gig a day) and won't have easy access to a computer for several days, what do you do?
  • Buy MANY cards for your camera - OR[/*]
  • Bring a laptop - OR [/*]
  • Bring a laptop hard drive & card reader package
We purchased the CASIO EX-S500 to take on this vacation b/c I wanted to be able to carry it in my pocket. The camera came with a 1GB SD card, and I bought a second one at Staples for $60. I knew I'd be shooting video, and 2 gigs was simply not enough to last all week. I didn't want to spend more on the cards than I had spent on the CASIO EX-S500. I don't own a laptop, and I wasn't willing to risk damage or theft to the company's laptop - even though they'd probably loan it to me.

My solution was the Wolverine FlashPack 7040. This is a battery powered 40-gig hard drive with a 7-in-1 card reader. You insert the card and press a "copy" button to copy the data to the hard drive. It hold 40 gigs, and costs about as much as 3 1Gb SD cards.

Costco has the 60 gig model for $199.

Worked like a charm, costs way less than the laptop I was considering, and I now have an external hard drive to use with my desktop machine.
